Wow, do I have a exciting update for you! As you may already know, I offer hair extensions using methods such as keratin bonds and tape-ins. Which are fantastic and beautiful, but of course, you want a stylist with options, right? A stylist that is continuing education and trends? Well, that’s me, I love my clients and want options for you and to experience all the new trends. Hand-tied hair extensions have been on my radar for about a year now. I have been researching the technique and learning about various teachers and accreditation programs. Finally, it’s official, I pulled the trigger and got certified for hand-tied and sew in weft hair extensions! This Asheville hair salon has a new service to add to our list.
I went to a class in Atlanta at Siren’ salon and the excellent instructor, Catiln Meehan, showed me the ropes, or hair extensions in this case ;) I want to give a huge thanks to Catlin. She is one of the best instructors who specializes in hand-sewn and sew in hair extensions. Her hands on training was exactly what I needed to truly understand the method to create a seamless effect. Her education technique pairs perfectly with her skills with hair. I had a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to bringing this option to my hair salon, Lavender & Lace, in Asheville North Carolina.

First of all, what are hand-tied extensions?

The technique is using wefts, or strips of hair that are either hand tied or sewn in to one piece. They are attached using a row of beads into your hair. First, a few beads are attached to your existing hair as contact points for anchoring the weft of hair to. Similar to a row of tape-ins or keratin bonds. This weft is the entire horizontal row of hair extensions from left to right, like a row, all in one piece. This entire horizontal line of hair (the weft) encompasses the whole span of your head. I like to explain it like a halo. The entire strip is sewn or “hand tied” into your hair like one big swoop using the beads we add at the beginning. After the service, you have longer hair and more hair! The results are incredibly natural in appearance. I am very impressed and so glad I am offering this as a additional service to my hair extension techniques.

What Are The Benefits?

  1. For one, if you have a busy schedule, the application is much faster than keratin bond application. As I mentioned, the application is one strip already assembled and sewn seamlessly hidden within your hair. You still get the completely natural hair look.
Additionally, you can reuse the hair. About every 6 weeks you simply schedule an appointment for a color or trim. During the appointment we can remove the entire weft and move it up to go with your hair growth. Are you trying to grow your hair out? This is an excellent option to get there now, and adjust while your hair gets to the desired length.

  2. The price point varies as we offer different hair suppliers then Great Lengths. This was especially important to me because I wanted to be able to provide hair extensions to every one within their budgets. This new alternative allows other price points that may make it affordable for a wide spectrum of different peoples budgets. I have done extensive research from suppliers and requested endless samples. So far, I found Bellami, Bohyme, Hair & Compounds and Covet and Mane to be the best suppliers I will be carrying for hand tied or sewn in hair extensions. I was incredibly impressed actually with the hair quality with these too. I cannot wait to share and for you to experience this method of extensions.

  3. Something different! Some of my clients who have always had keratin bonds, may just have fun trying something different. I support that! Why not? Also, some clients have trouble with bonds falling out on their hair or struggle with tape-ins. This may be a better option for certain people.

I’m excited to share more soon, maybe a more informative blog breaking down all my hair extensions options. Of course I have to update my website. But for now, I wanted to get this hot off the press because I have been so excited to share with you all! Next time you're getting your hair done at the salon, I will be glad share more information.

I cannot wait to see everyone and let’s try hand-tied extensions for more full and long hair!
